Dragan Džajić

Born: May 30, 1946

Clubs: Red Star, Bastia (France), Red Star

The British press baptized Dragan Džajić the "magic Dragan" after his left-wing skills helped take England (World Cup holders at that time) apart in the semi finals of the 19968 European Championship. He had pace, skill and intelligence and was perhaps the greatest football hero to have emerged in post war Yugoslavia. He was five-time champion with Red Star, four times a cup winner and earned selection for a variety of World and European XIs on five occasions. He remained an outside left winger throughout his career, which brought him 23 goals in 85 internationals (Yugoslav record). Dragan Džajić retired in 1978 and became general manager of Red Star. He was instrumental in gathering the best generation of Red Star culminating in capturing European and World Cup title in 1991.
