Non-Glass Insulators and Go-Withs
I define Non-Glass insulators as being anything made of some material other than glass or porcelain. Common materials used include plastic, rubber, bakelite, composition, wood, and metal. As you can see below, there is a wide variety of styles and types of insulators that fall into this category.
The composition material is usually a mix of fillers and glue, that can be pressed into to mold to make whatever shape is needed. It is a very strong and durable material, but there were as many formulations to make it, as there were companies making insulators from it. Some of the old patent documents have details of a companies specific process. They make for interesting reading.
