I was contacted by a friend of a friend who was cleaning out her mother's old house. She had a box of about 10 insulators that she didn't know very much about. I identified them for her and gave her approximate values and the history of them. There was a CD 102 NE, a CD 128 Pyrex, a CD 129 Armstrong, a CD 143 CanPac, two CD 145 Bs, a CD 152 Hemi No. 44, a CD 155 Domi-42, and a Continental Rubber R4. Nothing special in the bunch. I came away from the meeting with the light green CD 143 CanPac in return for my assistance. She has some other insulators at home and has promised me a picture when she returns home to Arizona.
My sister and I went to the Christie Antique Sale (just outside Hamilton). It is a very large sale with over 300 dealers. The weather forecast all week and even up until Friday night was not promising, but it didn't rain at all on Saturday during the sale.
There weren't a lot of insulators to be found, but I did come home with two insulators and a net float. I got a mint CD 235 Pyrex in light carnival and a VVVVVVNM CD 102 (B.T.C. blotted out) / MONTREAL in dark purple. In one booth I spotted a lady paying for 3 common insulators ($1.50 total) but there were no more to be had there. I did see a gorgeous, mint CD 162.4 1678 in purple for "only" $375. There were 6 or 8 threadless in various booths, but they were pretty pricey. One booth had an aqua base embossed (no idea what CD) M.T. Co. threadless in almost mint condition (for a threadless anyway) for a mere $600. I saw a so-so McMicking in another booth for $200+ ... NOT.
After the sale we drove down to Mike and Debbie's (about 40 minutes away) for a quick visit. We looked at their beautiful insulators, rocks, arrowheads, and parrots for an hour or so before driving home.
