Lost

I hear his sobs of fear
I reach out to him
And touch his face.
His eyes don’t smile,
His cheeks are cold
Tears trying to cover his pain.
He feels alone.

Trembling hands
With arms wrapped around his knees
His head interred in despair.
Afraid to let anyone know
How he feels inside.
Yet you can see it in his eyes.
In his world,
The sun no longer shines.

I try to comfort him
To protect him in my arms
To shed away the fear
But it’s no use.
I can't.
I’m too weak to console him.
For in his eyes,
In his hurtful eyes
I feel the pain.
I feel the same.

I reach out to touch him
He takes his hand in mine.
Our pain becomes one.
In the dark of the night
We cry together
We share the sorrow.
For in this lost boy,
Lost and afraid,
I find me.
