Midnight Wanderings
By Matthew Morrison
I stare into the darkness
Distance and time separating
Straining to peel back the blackness
And glimpse her face once again.
A short span of time, a drop in the bucket
Stretches on into eternity, unquenchable desire.
Encompassed by what does not satisfy.
Engulfed by the love of family, but unfulfilled without her.
Sailing rudderless through the canvas of time.
Striking land, bouncing away, longing to return.
Shouting into the vanishing, tattoed lands of life.
Echoing back the meaningless sounds of loneliness.
Ghost-like meanderings on the bleak water
Swirling like the morning mists across the horizon.
Enchanting the enchantor with her smile
Captivating the captor with her beautious traps.
Coming closer, reaching out.
Glimpsing, grazing, barely touching.
Eye to eye, hand to hand, lips to lips
I continue on my midnight wanderings.
