Labour Force Summary

In 1991, the labour force for the Sudbury and Espanola HRC Areas was approximately 98,705. This was an increase of approximately 8% over 1986.

Females comprise 45% of the total labour force in the Sudbury and Espanola HRC Areas.

The Francophone population constitutes approximately 30% of the total labour force in the Sudbury and Espanola HRC Areas.

Youth aged 15-24 years of age make up almost 20% of the total labour force in the Sudbury and Espanola HRC Areas.

Aboriginal peoples embody 5% of the total labour force in the local area.

Whereas approximately 1% of the total labour force in our area, consists of visible minorities.

In terms of the Labour Force, the major industries in the HRC Area are retail/wholesale trade, public administration, mining, medicine and health, other services, and education.
