This site is dedicated to the research and resources for the Kelly/Kelley surname in Canada during the 1700 - 1800's. There is a 'researchers' page listing the 'pioneer' families and their current researchers. I also have transcribed some information on Ontario Kelly marriages and census records.
My great-grandparents; Daniel KELLEY and Maria FLEMING, both from Ireland, apparently met and married in Upper Canada in 1845 - they represent my main 'brick wall', as their marriage record gives no hint as to their origins or parentage, and so they were the main instigation for this web site!
I am in the process of setting up a 'Canadian' CONDIE surname researchers' page, stretching back to their origins in Scotland - there are Australian branches also! OK! now I have to admit it - I'm dumb! - I can't keep track of all of you out there enquiring about our common surnames and who you are researching as opposed to who I am researching, therefore let's get on with it (I'm not sure yet what shape these pages will take; but please let me know if I can post your name and that of the ancestor you are researching so that we can all keep track of who's looking for whom!): HAWTHORNE, BROWN, and FLEMING.
If you have any information or resources for any of the above surnames, or others on this site, (in Canada or the land of their origins) that you would like to share, or if you wish to be listed on a 'researchers' page, please send me a message (or a letter if you are not connected to a computer - snail mail at: 193 Jean Street, SUDBURY, Ontario, Canada P3C 2R9).
HAS ANYBODY HERE SEEN KELLY?
I have 'lost' the 3 elder brothers of my grandfather William F. Kelly (parents were Daniel KELLEY and Maria FLEMING) - they were all born and raised in Wolford Township, Grenville County, Ontario. They may have used either the KELLEY or KELLY spelling of the name!
John, born ca 1846, had left the family farm by the time of the 1871 census.
Thomas, born ca 1848, had left the family farm by the time of the 1871 census.
Michael, born ca 1847, was still on the farm in Wolford Twp. on the 1871 census; no longer with his mother and remaining siblings by the 1881 census in Ottawa.
(I am also looking for their sister Mary-Ann on the 1881 census, is she a stray with your family group? By 1888 she had married William WHALEN in Carleton Place - I would like to know where she was during the 1881 census period.)
I have added a form to submit your early Canadian Kelly/Kelley ancestors' information - make sure you have all of your info at hand! ACTUALLY - you can use it to submit any of the other surnames that we're searching for on this site (Brown, Condie, Fleming, Hawthorne) If the form doesn't work (rats! just send your info in an email!). There is also an amendment form if you wish to update your current ancestral table.
I did have a bulletin board up for messages, but I guess the website went out of business! Major web pain in the neck! you set everything up and then a service 'disappears'.
ENQUIRIES?I receive many enquiries concerning my family surnames within this website. Some of you may have discovered (to your dismay) that I am terribly disorganized and slow on the 'up take'! I think that I will try setting up 'short' pages for the main surnames (other than Kelly, Condie and Hawthorne which already have pages): Allan, Brown, Downey, Fleming, Haskins, McIntire (McIntyre etc), etc on which I will post brief messages concerning your enquiries about your Canadian connections (or Ireland or Scotland, if parallel to my own lines), or lost lines (have you lost track of a great school mate from 30 years ago?); in order to share the info with fellow researchers out there that may be able to help - remember! - I haven't located my ancestors either - that is the reason for this web site!. We all want to make contact with others in our own family lines. If you have previously sent enquiries, I may be contacting you to see if you would like the info posted (otherwise, send it again). Consider listing your 'snail mail' (postal) address for those without access to the internet, and to avoid us losing contact due to an email address change etc. Send your enquiry by e-mail?
I am trying to sort out a painless, efficient navigational system (a system to get you around to the various pages on this site - without losing you in the process or having pages 'not found'). If there are any pages that do not download please e-mail me with the page URL or subject, in order that I may fix the problem. Your assistance is much appreciated! For now I hope this will suffice:

This search is brought to you by: FreeFind
Search for your ancestor on this site. The search result will bring you to the top of the page that the name is located on. To locate the reference on that page use the 'find' option on your browser! (As the entire site consists of 'Kellys' you'll likely get better results if you try searching under your ancestor's spouse's name.) |
