THE KELLY / KELLEY
SURNAME IN EARLY CANADA
'Lost Kellys'
On this page you will find:
Links (to Canadian Kelly Homepages)
Lost Trails (searching for current friends etc)
Lost Ancestors (searching for early ancestors, not enough info available to set up an 'ancestral table')
After 1900 (searching for ancestors in the 1900's - I don't usually post info on families after 1900 to ensure the privacy of living individuals)
There are some Canadian Kelly/Kelley enquiries I receive that do not have enough information listed to be posted to the 'Researchers' page (yet!). Perhaps we will be able to connect these families to their Canadian origins. If any of these listings seem familiar, please contact the researcher if you may have further info for them.
If you have 'lost' ancestors that originated from Canadian settlers during the 1700 - 1800's, but don't have enough info to be listed on the 'researchers' page - you may submit a brief enquiry listing the info that you do have. If you do so; please consider submitting your 'snail mail' address for the benefit of those that do not have regular access to the internet (and I worry about losing track of you through e-mail addresses - they seem so transitory - folks just seem to 'disappear' so easily on-line!).

I've only just started trying to set up these surname/enquriy pages. If you are interested enough to check them out, does that mean that you possibly have ancestor info or resources that you would like to have listed on these pages?
This site shall provide a place to post a brief note on your KELLY / KELLEY ancestor in Upper or Lower Canada during the 1700 and 1800's. These aren't really 'enquiries' but info put up in hopes of connecting with other family lines! (You may perhaps wish to provide your mailing address for those without access to the internet, or incase your e-mail address becomes unavailable at some time in the future).
If you would like to have your info posted here, or if I have placed your information on this page, and you would rather not have it posted; please let me know

I am searching for an old friend, Katy Kelly. Katy had sisters Mary, Ruth, Inez and brother Bill. We all grew up near Milton, Ontario and attended Holy Rosary School. I know that her father has passed away but when last we spoke, about 10 yrs ago her mother was still alive. At that time Katy was living in Toronto with her sister Inez. Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
Muryl Anderson Geary...(muryl@direct.ca), Vancouver, BC
I am looking for my best friend, Shirley Kelly of Winnipeg, Manitoba; we went to elementary school together at SOMERSET SCHOOL in Winnipeg up to 1946. Last seen in 1959 when I left Canada to live in Europe. She married and her name of Kelly was gone from the Directory and Telephone Book. If you ever come across her on your website I would be thrilled. She had a brother Ronald Kelly also in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Delighted to see your Kelly website. My maiden name was Muryl (Marlene) Anderson but I married a Geary (Irish!). Sorry I have no information on any other Kellys to contribute. Love your website and thanks for the forum!
John DeSantis/Robert Eugene Kelly at (nycajun@bellsouth.net) (email address updated March 2002)
Greetings. My name is John DeSantis, but I learned this year that I was born Robert Eugene Kelly in or around Montreal in 1956. The name Robert Eugene Kelly was on the passport my adopted parents used to bring me over the border from Canada to the US after they adopted me. It is therefore the only name link I have to my birth. I desperately hope to learn of my Irish roots, since I have been so attracted to Irish music etc. even before I knew I was Irish. If you can offer any help, or if you know of anyone who is looking for me to fill out their geneology (a missing sibling or cousin or who knows?) then please let me know. I will be forever grateful. By the way, great website! Regards!

I am looking for any information regarding my father's birth mother. Walter Kelly a.k.a. John Kelly Schielke, born 09 Feb 1933 in Regina, Saskatchewan; died 07 June 1970. Son of Mary Kelly, Catholic. My Father was adopted and his name was Walter Kelly at birth and his mother's name Mary Kelly. He was adopted by Alice and August Schielke from Edmonton, Alberta. I have no other information except that he was in fostercare at the time of adoption. My father and his adopted parents are all deceased now, but I've always wanted to know my true heritage. If anyone has any information it would be fantastic. They named him John Kelly Schielke.

Ann Henderson at (Vernelles@aol.com)
Seeking birth of Mary Ann Kelly who married my gt-grandfather John LYSCOM (born Quebec, Canada, 22 Oct 1819). He married Mary Ann about 1850 I would think in Devon, England, as their first son Edmond John James was born at E.Stonehouse, Devon on 26 Apr 1852, confirmed by his birth certificate. I know by John's Naval records which I have obtained from Kew, that his father was William Lyscom a soldier in Quebec, and that John had a whale tatooed on his right forearm, was he perhaps a whaler in Canada, before joining the English Royal Navy?

Maureen (Kelly) Hardy (utewalker@favorites.com)
Seeking information on David KELLY, born in Canada, father of James Albert Kelly, born Scottsville, Monroe, New York.
On his marriage certificate date 29 Apr 1902, in Buffalo, NY, James' father is listed as David Kelly born in Canada and his mother is Caroline V. Harnes (or Haines) no birth place given. "I had asked my grandfather before he died if he knew anything about his family and he said no. He said when his father died, that brothers came to the funeral that no one had seen before and never saw after." Supposedly our Kellys came originally from the Isle of Mann.

Has anyone out there done research on the various Kelly families in the Verlum, Bobcaygeon area that they would be willing to submit for posting on this site? mak
Donald Kelly (donell@telusplanet.net), Gordondale, Alta, 06 Feb 1999
My problem is I don't know my grandfather's parents' names and there were so many Kelly's in the Verlum, Bobcaygeon area of Ontario in the right time period I can't say for sure who the right ones are.
I have downloaded the marriage files you have posted and found my grandfather's marriage certificate and I wonder if there is more info on the film (if you still have it). The info listed is Kelly, Mossom, married on 10/25/92: cert.# 011 848 : of Red Rock. I have found out my grandmother's maiden name but not her parents', hopefully they are on the cert. The other one is my grandfathers sister I think. The info listed is Kelly, Laura Francis: married on 11/15/05: cert. # 018 918 : of Verlum twp.I know she married a Patterson but who? Any info you can supply me with will be greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to get back to the LDS for further research due to car troubles - Don, I hope you have been able to determine the full info listed in the certificates mentioned above by now. If anyone has general info on the various family groupings and wouldn't mind having it posted to this site; it sure would help to straighten out the different families. I notice many, many listings for the Verlum, Bobcaygeon area while transcribing the marriage records! I haven't received any info for families in this area as of yet. mak, May 99

Colleen Kelly (searches@execulink.com)....Web site
In my family there are two seperate Kelly lines.
(1) James Kelly, who came to Adelaide Twp, Middlesex County, in about 1841, with his wife and at least one son, Robert. This family lived in Adelaide Twp, Luncan Ontario, and Thorndale, West Nissouri twp.
(2) William Kelly, born July 12, 1841, immigrated to Toronto, about 1888, and married my g-grandmother in 1889. This Kelly has been very elusive because there is no hint as to his origins except family tales. Thanks again for the great Kelly effort..... Colleen Kelly, London, Ontario
Alice V. Susko (alice7@sympatico.ca)
My Kelly's originated in Nenagh, Tipperary at the beginning of the 1800's. They emigrated to Northumberland, Durham England and there they remain. The Kelly's remained in ENG and SCT however, my grandmother Margaret Ann Kelly was the only only one of her family to emigrate (with her husband and children) to Canada. There were 10 siblings in my g-mothers family (we have info on all 10 families). I have traced back to my 3rd g-grandfather Thomas Kelly (ca 1800's) but know nothing of his parents or siblings.
Michael P. Shaver, 1902 LaCrescent Ct. 608-783-5487 La Crosse, Wisconsin
My gggrandfather was Peter Kelley (born ca 1825, Canada) who immigrated to Wisconsin, USA in the 1870s and married Emeline Duplicie/Duplisse. My grandmother insisted that Kelley was pronounced "Kay Yea" and may have been spelled Callieux or Callier at one time (implying I guess French origins). I don't know anything more about him except that he lived for some time in Illinois before settling finally in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Does any of this fit with information that you have? Mike
Ann (annanburt@mciworld.com) May 99 (amended May 2000)
I have a Kelly in the family. He is an inlaw but I am letting you know because his name is John Kelly. I know nothing about him except that he lived in the Merrickville, Ont area at some time as his wife was Elizabeth TWEEDY whose family was from there. Let me explain a little:
I have an old photograph album in which I am trying to identify all the pictures. I have been doing very well but I have a group of 3 people who I do not know how they tie in. They are John KELLY, Elizabeth Tweedy Kelly (John's wife) and Jack Tweedy (who I assume is Mary's brother). The album apparently belonged to the FERGUSON family, who married into the Tweedy family, who married into the Kelly family.
If any of this seems to tie in - please let me know.
