In The Pink: The Pink Floyd Sound

Pink Floyd is usually categorized now as a classic rock band. But anyone that has listened to them couldn't put them into the same group as Led Zeppelin, The Doobie Brothers, etc... They have a sound that is like no other band before or since. They were originally known (professionally) as The Pink Floyd Sound (they had many other names prior) but became better known as simply Pink Floyd. I came to know them as Pink Floyd, and thought the name captured their enigmatic style. Perhaps The Pink Floyd Sound was redundant because Pink Floyd copied no one and stood on their own. Can you think of any other band that has never covered somebody elses music? The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones (all good bands) have covered tunes at one time or another. All Floyd tunes are penned by one or more of the musicians. It's, in part, what keeps the Pink Floyd sound unique.
