Castles
  • The Castles of Wales
    Cestyll Cymru
The Castles of Wales web site offers a lot more than just photographs of various Welsh castles. The pages here provide information on over 400 different Welsh castles found throughout the land, as well as profiles of the men responsible for their construction, and the turbulent times in which they lived. We cover a wide range of topics related to Welsh castles and Welsh medieval history, and most of the essays are accompanied by high quality photographs. If you take the time to explore the site, we believe you will be pleased with both the variety and depth of information provided. We also feature a smaller section on Abbeys and Other Religious Sites in Wales, monuments that, like the Castles of Wales, represent an important component of Welsh medieval heritage.
  • Welsh Castles
[This is an extension of the Grobius Shortling Web Page "Castles, Stone Circles, and Ancient Monuments." All the castles listed here have been personally visited, and any factual errors or wrong-headed opinions are my own fault. --Grobius Shortling, Feb 1997]
  • Welsh Castle Tours
The castle pictures in this site are medium, not high resolution images. The images are taken from frozen frames of a videotape from a Canon A-1 video camera with S-Video output. Higher resolution pictures produce more dramatic pictures, as can be found in "Other castle sites" below. This project, however, is an experiment in low cost, "acceptable-resolution" images.
  • Castles of Britain
CASTLES UNLIMITED was formed in recognition of the necessity to preserve these relics of history. We are dedicated to the promotion and study of British Castles. Our goals are educating and stimulating people to explore the castles for themselves. We hope you will become involved in the preservation of these wonderful structures.
  • Ruperra Home page
Ruperra Castle stands in a romantically ruined state between Newport and Cardiff in South Wales. The Ruperra Castle Conservation Trust hopes to change that.
  • dolforwyn - Dolforwyn Castle
    Dolforwyn Castle, Powys
This long-term excavation was started in 1981 with the intention of completely excavating the interior of a short-period occupation Welsh castle.
  • Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort Pembrokeshire
Nestling within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, between the stunning coastline and hauntingly beautiful Preseli Hills, Castell Henllys is a reconstructed Iron Age hillfort. This ancient and important fortress is under excavation by archaeologists every summer and these 'digs' have, over many years, produced evidence which has made possible the reconstruction of roundhouses and other buildings in which the original Celtic inhabitants lived and worked.

Air Travel
  • Cardiff International Airport
  • Aerodrome Information
  • Welshpool Mid Wales Airport (EGCW)
Welshpool (Mid Wales) Airport, designated EGCW,is our operational base. The airfield is owned by the Powys Unitary Authority (i.e.County Council) and is operated on their behalf by Messrs POOL AVIATION Ltd. It is set in the beautiful Severn Valley in Central Wales and is an uncongested modern airfield. We enjoy the freedom of the skies because of the uncontrolled airspace which covers most of Wales. There is a very busy flying school here along with full maintenance facilities, fuel (both Jet A1 and 100LL) and of course the cafeteria/aircraft viewing area where visitors can watch all the arrivals and departures.
