1900-1989
These web pages are dedicated to my great uncle, Volodimir (Michael)
Barabash, a Ukrainian-Canadian poet and philosopher, who had written over 500 poems and
nearly 500 aphorisms. From his biography, one can see that he led
an interesting although difficult life.
In the early 1970's Uncle had spent some time at our home in Winnipeg. During his time
with us he was always writing new poems or compiling collections of his poems and
aphorisms to send to friends and family. They were always in his calligraphic script. It is from my collection of his works that I have
selected a group of these poems and aphorisms
to share with you.
In 1994 a collection of Uncle's writings were published under the title of Volodimir
Barabash - Poems and Aphorisms by the Markian Shashkevych Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba
and funded by Uncle's estate. This collection was edited by Olenka L. Negrych and Mykhailo
H. Marunchak.
On August 28, 1997, a dedication of a memorial
to Volodimir Barabash took place at his grave site during
the 85th anniversary celebration of St. Mary's Catholic Church
in Seech, Manitoba. |
