THE HISTORY OF MAN IS IN HIS SOUL

The world must always be a mystery
Until we grasp the universal plan.
To fully understand we, too, must lear
The long continued history of man.
The history of man is in his soul!
Like earth's own age, it lies there - stratified,
And takes us back, to pre-historic times...
Along the path that mother nature wrought.

The crawling snake; the prowling tiger's crouch.
The lion's roar; the hyena's wicked laugh.
The calculating cunning of the fox.
The slow and stolid action of the ox.
The servile, strong devotion of the dog.
The watchful speed of eagle, in his flight
The noble symbol of the dove, on wings:
All these... recorded in the soul of man.

But there are the other signs... the future, too,
Is carved upon the universal scroll:
Reposing in the chambers of man's soul
His lower nature is to be transformed.
The voice of destiny is calling him
To rise above the level of the beast.
To purify his heart and lift his mind.
To soar up to the heights where angels dwell!
